Family Focus Dental has served Wentworthville families since 1988. From Station Street to our current home at 160 Dunmore St — a building that's looked after this community for over 60 years.

Long before we put our sign above the door, the building at 160 Dunmore Street was already part of Wentworthville's story.

In 1961, Joan and Frank Drury took over a small mixed business on this corner. Locals knew it simply as Drury's — a one-stop shop where you could buy fresh milk in glass bottles, weighed-out Arnotts biscuits in brown paper bags, a Paddle Pop for the kids on a hot afternoon, and a tin of kerosene for the heater in winter.

Mrs Drury ran the front of the shop. Mr Drury delivered orders by hand. There was a wooden till with cup-like recesses for the coins, a red post box out the front, and a fridge full of fresh milk that the local children would queue up for after school. For many Wentworthville families, this corner was their first stop on the way home from work and the last stop before Christmas dinner.

That same building — same walls, same corner of Dunmore Street — is where we look after families today.

Our story didn't start at 160 Dunmore Street. It started in 1988.

Family Focus Dental was founded in Wentworthville in 1988 by Dr. Douglas Lung— over 37 years ago. We began on Station Street, just down the road. As the families we cared for grew, so did we.

We moved to 57 Dunmore Street, then to 67 Dunmore Street, and finally, in 2021, to our current home at 160 Dunmore Street, Wentworthville. The building has its own story. Mrs Drury once ran her milk bar here. Later, Dr Norman Soo opened his medical centre on the same corner. Today, restored and rebuilt as a modern dental practice, it continues a tradition of caring for Wentworthville that's lasted more than 60 years.

Three moves. Same street. Same community. Same families — many of whom remember buying ice cream here as kids and now bring their own grandchildren in for check-ups.

Three generations of patients. Three generations of care.

When you've been part of one neighbourhood for nearly four decades, something quietly powerful happens. You stop seeing patients as appointments. You start seeing them as families — and families across time.

We've cared for grandparents who first walked through our door in their forties. Their children, who came in for their first dental checks as teenagers, now bring their own kids. We have patients whose parents bought lollies from Mrs Drury in the 1960s, and whose own children now sit in our chairs.

That continuity changes how we work. We notice patterns others miss — the way a son grinds his teeth like his father did. The early gum sensitivity in a mother that helps us watch her daughter more closely. The orthodontic timing for a teenager whose older sibling we've already treated. Good family dentistry isn't just convenient. Over time, it becomes better dentistry.

Why families have stayed with us for 37 years

We've heard it again and again from patients who've been with us through multiple addresses, multiple generations, and multiple stages of their own lives. Three things keep them coming back:

We're gentle. Dental anxiety is real, and we treat it as seriously as any clinical condition. Many of our patients say they used to dread the dentist — until they came here. We take our time. We don't rush. We don't judge. Patients who haven't sat in a dental chair for ten years often book their second visit before they leave.

We explain everything. No surprise bills. No vague "you need work done." When we recommend a treatment, we tell you exactly why, what it will cost, how long it will take, and what happens if you choose to wait. Clarity is non-negotiable. It's what trust is built on.

We remember you. Not just your name — your story. Long-term continuity is what allows us to give you the best care, and it's what we've built our practice around. Many of our patients have seen the same dentist with us for more than a decade.

A modern practice in a building full of history

Today, our practice at 160 Dunmore Street is home to Dr Simon Cha, Dr John Tran, Dr Li Ann Ooi and Dr James Paik — four experienced dentists working across three modern treatment rooms. We offer the full range of general and cosmetic dental care, from check-ups and cleans to implants, crowns, root canal therapy, and Invisalign. We're open six days a week, including Saturdays, and we accept all major health funds — BUPA, Medibank, NIB and HCF among them. Eligible children are welcome through the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), and we proudly care for veterans through the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA).

But the heart of what we do isn't in the equipment or the chairs.

It's in the choice we made when we opened in 1988, and in the choice the Drury's made when they opened their corner shop in 1961 — to build something that the local community could rely on, generation after generation. Different services. Same purpose.

Become part of the next chapter

If your family has been with us for years, thank you. You're the reason this practice exists, and you're the reason we've been here long enough to watch your children — and your grandchildren — grow up.

If you're new to Wentworthville, or you've been looking for a dental home that feels different from what you've experienced before, we'd love to welcome you. Come in for a check-up. Have a chat. Ask us anything. We've been doing this for nearly four decades, and we're not going anywhere.

The corner has always taken care of this community. We're honoured to continue that tradition.
